How We Keep This Community Reliable

Champ d'Habit is built on tested methods, not guesswork. Every tutorial, harvest calendar, and repair guide is reviewed by members who have actually used it in their own homes. We moderate threads to keep advice honest, flag unverified claims, and encourage beginners to ask until the process makes sense. This page explains the checks and community norms that keep our forum dependable.

How We Keep This Forum Honest

A few ground rules about what we share, how we moderate, and what you can expect from the advice on this site.

Advice Is Community-Tested, Not Certified

Every technique on Champ d'Habit comes from a member's own kitchen, garden, or workshop. We do not employ professional inspectors or issue certifications. What works for one household in Durban may need adjusting for another in Pretoria, so treat each guide as a starting point rather than a guarantee.

Moderation Keeps Threads Useful

Our volunteer moderators review new posts within 48 hours. They remove spam, off-topic arguments, and unsafe instructions like unverified canning methods or electrical repairs that could cause harm. If a thread gets flagged three times, it goes into a review queue before reappearing.

Regional Calendars Are Approximate

Harvest calendars and seasonal meal plans follow broad South African climate zones. Rainfall, frost dates, and soil conditions vary widely even within the same province. Check your local weather service before planting or preserving large batches of produce.

Tool Swaps Are Member-to-Member

We host the swap board but do not insure, inspect, or mediate borrowed tools. Members agree to their own lending terms, including damage deposits and return dates. Report unresolved disputes to our team and we will suspend repeat offenders from the board.

No Paid Endorsements

We do not accept money from brands to feature their products in tutorials or discussions. When a member mentions a specific brand of preserving jar or compost bin, it is because they bought it themselves and found it reliable. Sponsored posts are clearly labelled and rare.

What Members Say After Putting Methods to Work

These are notes from forum members who tried the techniques, swapped tools, or followed a harvest calendar. Each one names the specific habit or project that made a difference in their household.

"I followed the water-wise cleaning routine from the Cape Town thread and cut our mopping water by more than half. The greywater bucket setup took one afternoon to build."

Julie Richards

"The small-space gardening guide helped me plan a vertical bean frame against our garage wall. We harvested enough for three meals a week through summer."

Tshegofatso Cronje

"I borrowed a ladder and a tile cutter through the tool-swap board instead of buying both. The neighbour who lent them also showed me how to fix a loose gutter."

Mrs. Heidi Hoffman

"The sauerkraut tutorial was the first ferment that actually worked for me. The tip about packing the cabbage tightly solved the soft texture problem I kept having."

Emmanuel van Staden

"Our seasonal meal plan for autumn used butternut and spinach from the local market. The calendar in the forum told me exactly when to start the seedlings."
